The State Police of Pennsylvania is leading the investigation into the shooting.
The officers were following an investigation that began on Tuesday, according to Paris, who characterized the case as “related to the national level.”
Paris said there are many details that the police are not ready to release at this time due to ongoing investigation. He did not identify the names of the officers or where they worked, only saying that there are five law agents in York County.
“This is an absolutely tragic and devastating day for York County and the entire Commonwealth of Pennsylvania,” said Governor of Pennsylvania, Josh Shapiro, during the press information session.
The police did not release the name of the shooter.
“We will not rest until we have conducted a complete, fair, safe and exhaustive investigation on this matter,” said Paris.
The scene is very big and remains active, said Paris. The agents of the ATF Harrisburg field office and the FBI are helping at the scene.
“Our prayers are with the officers, their families and the entire York County community,” said FBI director Kash Patel, in a statement.
The incident was informed to 911 shortly after 2 pm on Wednesday and responded multiple police units and emergency medical service, said York County Emergency Management official.
Dave Miller, who lives on the other side of the shooting street, told ABC Harrisburg Affiliate WHTM He observed how the officers approached the barn area of a farm, then heard “many, many shots.”
He described the incident as “traumatic.”

All schools in the school district of the Spring Grove area initially protected themselves in place “due to an incident involved by officers in our area,” said the school district in a statement while stressing the situation does not involve any of its schools or students. Since then, the shelter is over, the district said.
