Doj says goodbye to the United States prosecutor for New Jersey after the State elected her over Trump's former lawyer Alina Habba

The Department of Justice said Tuesday that he fired Desiree Leigh Grace as the newly appointed US prosecutor for the New Jersey district, hours after federal judges in the state chose his election from President Donald Trump, Alina Haba.

The announcement occurred only a few hours after federal judges in New Jersey chose not to appoint Haba, Trump’s former personal lawyer, as the main federal prosecutor of the State permanently after Trump appointed Habba as the US state lawyer in March.

“This Department of Justice does not tolerate rebel judges, especially when the powers of article II of the president threaten,” Pam Bondi published in X by announcing Grace’s dismissal.

Grace was Haba’s first assistant before the district judges elevated her to superior work, establishing the expulsion of Haba.

Haba was waiting for the Senate’s confirmation when his 120 -day mandate as an American prosecutor expired this week.

The previous justice departments have recognized that district judges have the authority to appoint a prosecutor from the United States if the United States Senate does not act on the president’s candidate within 120 days.

It is not clear if Trump’s Department of Justice now believes that this process can avoid.

Alina Haba speaks after having sworn as the United States Interim Attorney for New Jersey, in the Oval Office of the White House, on March 28, 2025.

Grace, a nine -year -old career prosecutor, previously directed the criminal division of the New Jersey office.

Haba served as Trump’s legal spokesman in several cases after he left the White House in 2021.

When Trump resumed the presidency this year, she was one of the four of her defense lawyers to be appointed for publications in her administration, including Todd Blanche, Emil Bove and John Sauer.

“Alina is the election of President Trump to lead,” said Blanche, the deputy attorney general, on social networks after the judges announced Grace’s promotion on Tuesday. “No partisan bank can cancel that.”

In his mandate as a US prosecutor, he left a brand in politically charged cases, bringing prosecutors against the mayor of Newark, Ras Baraka, and the American representative Lamonica Mciver, both Democrats.

He also challenged the New Jersey State Police about sanctuary policies related to the application of immigration.
